Interlacing/Lace drawing
Grotesque: whimsical shape coming from a deeper hidden place. We long
for hidden places because the outside world is unknown, a stranger. The
cave as encapsulation, as the lap. What at first sight is a desolate
place gets a liberating meaning.
N. Dimovska is looking for a way to connect people and place. Places do
not need people. People do need location and play with the idea that the
place expects them. By decorating it, making it cosy. To convince
themselves that they belong there, that they are connected to it in an
indissoluble manner. Because they know they are loosen beings. Cutting
the umbilical cord isolated them forever. The warm cave of their
conception is an irretrievable memory. But that utopian beginning is a
life lasting image.
Nowadays, ultrasound allows people to fix their offspring in image,
turning the mythical cave into a concrete place. Cosines, homeliness,
security are a necessity to us. Because we all are children without an
umbilical cord. We long for the connection with that primary, still
unformed, indeterminable. We believe in the illusion of a home. We thus
decorate ourselves and our surrounding with signs of nest feeling from
which we cannot be banned.
We interlace ourselves with a bit of beauty. We stretch countless
threads between who we are and where we are. Small signs of habitation
attach themselves to the universe. We believe in all the symbols that
protect us from meaninglessness.
